01 — Overview

Overview

A modern website for an interior design firm, prioritizing visual storytelling and a responsive, layout-first presentation of the studio's work.

02 — Problem

The problem

An interior design portfolio lives or dies on how well the photography reads — the brief was a site where imagery and layout carry the message, with the interface staying out of the way.

03 — Design process

Design process

Started from the photography and typography, not a component library — layout rhythm and image cropping were treated as the primary design decisions, motion as a secondary layer added once the static layout held up.

04 — Architecture

Architecture

A Next.js site with Framer Motion reserved for entrance and scroll-triggered reveals, not persistent interaction state.

05 — Engineering decisions

Engineering decisions

Layout-first, motion-second

Motion was added only after the static composition worked on its own, so it enhances rather than compensates for the layout.

06 — Trade-offs

Trade-offs

No significant trade-offs called out for this project.

07 — Challenges

Challenges

Responsive image-heavy layouts

Keeping large photography sharp and fast-loading across breakpoints without the layout losing its intended proportions.

08 — Outcome

Outcome

A responsive marketing site focused on visual storytelling for the studio's portfolio work.

Motion

Framer Motion was added only after the static layout worked on its own — entrance and scroll-triggered reveals, nothing that the page depends on to make sense.

12 — Lessons learned

Lessons learned

  • For a visually-led brief, the interface's job is restraint — the content is the design.
